The Making of an effective teacher..
Part -I
An effective teacher is the one who has Passion , Capability ,Care , Patience and Persistence .
Passion is sometimes ambiguously taken as aspiration or ambition or obsession for something . But what passion is all about is, ‘doing what you love and loving what you do’. And so passionate teachers are, for sure not the ones who think, ‘it’s a 9 to 3 job’.
Passionate teachers love being a teacher and they adore their learners to the extent of adoration. They are trusted by the learners for their love and they are loved for the trust bestowed upon them by their learners.
Capability of a teacher is not just how much and to what extent he can teach but to what extent can he meet the expectations he has from the learners. The real ability of a teacher is to be at par with the learner when it comes to struggle for knowing. The most capable teacher will and should always bring out the utmost intelligence of a learner through his own intelligence as a teacher. The teacher’s capability should underpin decision making & problem solving.
Teachers who care about their students have more impact on how well their learners do at school.
Their care for their learners is no less than the care and love a parent has for their child. Caring teachers are extremely warm by behaviour, they always try to wish their learners before the learners wish them. The moment a caring teacher becomes visible to the learners, their face glows with charm and love. But the most important aspect of this care is to care for a learner as a learner and not just as a human.
This care makes the learners develop self-belief for their own capabilities to learn. They become more open to ideas and they don’t hesitate in committing mistakes and welcoming feedback for better learning.
Patience is another important key to become a great teacher. Patience makes the teacher cooler and more capable . Patience with perseverance is what is expected out of a teacher. Patience should not be just the control of emotions but control of the process of learning. A patient teacher will always allow the learners to struggle with a problem and find a way out of the same with the least possible support from the teacher. Patience with proper monitoring of the learner’s progress is important because without monitoring , both the teacher and the learner will not know what’s going wrong or what’s going the other way .
Persistence is the test of patience . Persistence also tests the teachers’ commitment to themselves. Teachers start accepting failures as feedbacks and not setbacks. They start accepting criticism as pavements to progress and not as hurdles to growth. They start working harder and harder to go that extra mile which most of the teachers don’t. They embrace every situation and start finding the best way to utilize the same , be it a success or otherwise.
