Peer Learning
I have worked with different schools and colleges for over two decades.
To my wonder , I just couldn’t digest the very fact that a Hindi teacher, in spite of being with English Speaking teachers in the same campus for over the years , still can’t speak English.
The same is with other teachers too in other subjects.
This is a fiasco of the culture that prevails within the academia.
What’s there to be ashamed off?
There shouldn’t be any hesitation in asking a colleague of a particular subject about the subject itself. Such a beautiful chance of learning , that too free of cost ,is missed out.
Everyone in the staff room can have some good ideas about some other subjects. At least the language , history , geography etc.
Staff room can be the best learning and grooming place for a teacher’s development. Development of a teacher through a teacher.
This usually doesn’t happen so very easily because of the labelling effect of the teachers. The teachers are not only labelled according to their experience but also according to their pay scales and grades they teach.
A young teacher joins an institution should be boosted and backed up , by the senior ones. But the case goes reverse. All the zeal and passion and ideologies with which a youngster comes into an institution, vanishes soon after a few weeks.
And the young teacher accepts the stereotypical attributes and redundant approaches of teaching just as their seniors.
I just can’t understand why teachers don’t create teachers?
A question with fathomless substance.
No teacher is going to be immortal but teaching is.
A teacher’s responsibility is endless and it doesn’t end with death too.
Unless teachers create teachers for future and that too a refined and improved version of themselves , nothing is going to be changed.
The senior teachers should back the youngsters to take risk , to learn, and to innovate.
Its actually un acceptable that after being in the profession for years and years , a teacher doesn’t know the glitches and lacuna of the system.
